THE GUILDED DOVE

I looked unto the hillsAnd my spirit sailed the seasThen walked the steaming desertAnd so softly rustled trees

More than mind was searchingO'er the universe so vastTo find the Truth you promised, LordTo set me free at last

I peered into hungry eyesI felt a broken heartSpoke softly to the angryThen a voice said, "Don't depart...

Don't leave until you bring them BreadAnd help mend hearts so soreBring healing and bring hope, my childPoint the dying to the Door"

Set me free, Lord, set me freeMay truth from wisdom stemBring freedom as I walk this earthAnd fellowship with man

There's a Guilded Dove insideThat yearns to spread His wingsTo soar above the world so highAnd teach lost souls to sing

So I visited the homelessThe oppressed and the wearyI gave no thought to what I'd sayFor You spoke through me clearly

I prayed for children, felt their needI cried out for the lostI prayed You'd comfort and protectI sacrificed the cost

Then living waters drenched my thirstAnd calmed all fears and strifeA well of water springing upBrought everlasting life

The commandments God called "Greatest"Were to love God with our allTo love our neighbor as ourselvesHold them up that they don't fall

And then I realized at lastWhen I had died to meLove calmed my brand new spiritFor the Son had set me free
